This report integrates the vast amount of observation data accumulated by the United Cities of America (UCA), archived interviews, and the latest observation records from the DHV Magellan in the regions of Mexico and the Australian continent (the latest phenomena in “DS2: On the Beach”). It meticulously unravels the full picture of the “collapse of the boundary between life and death,” categorizing it into factual structures and speculative reasoning. In this desolate world sinking in silence and Timefall, death is no longer the rest of the end, but manifests as “another state of activity” that attempts to erode and devour life.

Why did matter originating from the “Beach,” the world of the dead (Chiralium), and Tar suddenly overflow into the world of the living? As one extremely compelling deduction for this mystery, there is the “Bridgmanite Hypothesis” proposed by Heartman.

It has been suggested that Bridgmanite, a silicate mineral existing extensively deep within the Earth’s lower mantle, may have already been mixed with Chiralium from the early stages of the Earth’s formation. This could serve as a chilling scientific corroboration for the fact that in many ancient myths and religions, “Hell” and the “Underworld” have always been depicted as “underground spaces.” In other words, from the very moment the Earth was formed from cosmic dust and born, it contained the “world of the dead (the afterlife)” beneath its feet.

Humanity was once unable to perceive the great rivers of Tar (the dimension of the dead) flowing deep underground. However, with the occurrence of the Death Stranding phenomenon, or the awakening of Amelie, an Extinction Entity (EE), humanity was forcibly elevated to a dimension where they could perceive “souls” and the “world of the dead.” It can be concluded that the Death Stranding is not an unknown invasion from outer space, but a phenomenon in which the concept of “death,” which the Earth had kept hidden inside, ruptured and bloomed from within into the realm of “life” on the surface.

3. Necrosis and the Birth of Beached Things (BTs): The End of the Organism and the Rebellion of the Soul

The greatest factor that transformed the phenomenon of death from a former “quiet parting” into a “world-ending threat” is the process of Necrosis (post-mortem change/tissue death) and the accompanying manifestation of BTs (Beached Things).

3.1 [Fact] The Physical Process of Necrosis and the Ecology of BTs

When a human dies in the world of the living, unless their corpse is immediately reduced to ashes in an incinerator, it undergoes Necrosis after a grace period of approximately 48 hours. Once this process is complete, black Tar, a substance from the afterlife, oozes from the corpse, and the soul (Ka) that was supposed to head to the Beach forcibly returns to the world of the living, manifesting as a “BT.”

BTs maintain a humanoid silhouette as an aggregate of black particles, eerily floating in the space of the living world while dragging a black cord-like tissue resembling an umbilical cord toward the sky. They do not possess clear vision, but have the characteristic of swarming in acute response to spatial vibrations, sounds, and the presence of the living (especially breathing). The most terrifying physical characteristic is the fact that “antimatter” is contained within the bodies of BTs. This antimatter is the very detonator that triggers the catastrophic Voidout, described later, upon contact with the living.

3.2 Metaphysical Consideration: Lost Souls and the Curse of the Umbilical Cord

The phenomenon of Necrosis is not merely biological decomposition or cell death. It is considered to be a process in which the physical laws of the “Beach” forcibly rewrite the body (Ha) left in the world of the living, repurposing it as a gate between life and death. The “umbilical cord” dragged by a BT is originally a fundamental symbol of life that connects a fetus to the mother, the “world of the living.” However, in this world where the boundary has collapsed, the vector of the umbilical cord is reversed. It functions as a “visual metaphor of a curse” that binds the dead to the world of the living, or tethers them to the Beach, the giant maternal sea of death.

Why do BTs relentlessly seek the living? They by no means possess pure malice or an intent to slaughter. What exists there is overwhelming “loneliness” and a “thirst for life.” The Ka (soul) stranded in the world of the living has already lost its own Ha (body) to which it should return. Their attempt to touch and drag in the living might be a sorrowful and blind reflex action to substitute their lost warmth and fill the pain of being an incomplete existence by incorporating the “living body” of another. They, too, are victims of the cosmic phenomenon known as the Death Stranding, lost children who will never be healed.

4. The Trigger of Nothingness: The Physical and Metaphysical Mechanism of the Voidout

The most catastrophic and irreversible consequence brought about by the contact between life and death is the massive explosion known as a “Voidout.” Due to the chain reaction of this phenomenon, the majority of the former American continent was turned into a series of craters, forcing humanity into isolated lives in fragmented underground shelters.

4.1 [Fact] Activation Conditions and Misconceptions of a Voidout

Among past survivors and communities during the initial period of chaos, there was a scattered misconception that “leaving a corpse to undergo Necrosis itself immediately causes a massive explosion,” but this has been explicitly denied. If a corpse merely undergoes Necrosis, it only gives birth to a BT; an explosion never occurs. For example, even when the corpse of the Elder, who died alone in his shelter, turned into a BT, a Voidout did not occur because there were no living people around.

The absolute and sole condition for a Voidout to occur is that “a BT containing antimatter preys upon, or deeply contacts and assimilates with, a ‘living human (matter)’ in the world of the living.” An explosion does not occur even if a BT comes into contact with a mere corpse (matter). Only at the moment a living human is dragged into a BT’s Tar and completely swallowed is a tremendous antimatter-matter annihilation reaction triggered, powerful enough to wipe out an entire city.

4.2 Metaphysical Consideration: Why Must It Be the “Living”?

According to the Standard Model of physics, if matter and antimatter come into contact, annihilation should occur regardless of whether the subject is alive or dead. However, in the Death Stranding phenomenon, a “living body” is strictly required as the trigger for a Voidout.

It is deduced that behind this inexplicable event lies a metaphysical causality that goes beyond a mere physical collision of “mass.” A living human is filled with the “potential energy of life,” where the soul (Ka) is firmly bound to the body (Ha). When a BT (an antimatter existence composed solely of Ka) attempts to assimilate with a living person in a complete state (a material existence where Ka and Ha are in harmony), the “phases of existence” forcibly overlap in space, transcending a mere collision of matter.

As a result of this “absolute contradiction between life and death” breaching the permissible limits of space, physical space itself cannot withstand it and collapses, piercing a massive hole (crater) to the afterlife into the world of the living—this is considered to be the true nature of a Voidout. Because a corpse is merely an empty vessel that has already lost its soul (Ka), it lacks the amount of spiritual energy necessary to cause a contradiction, and thus does not lead to an explosion. A Voidout can be described as a localized system crash caused by the universe being unable to process the bug of “the coexistence of life and death.”

5. The Singularity of the Boundary: “Repatriates” and the Structure of The Seam

In a world where the boundary between life and death has collapsed and all the living cower in fear of Voidouts, a unique existence that deviates from the rules of that collapse is the “Repatriate.” Represented by the legendary Porter, Sam Porter Bridges, they are beings for whom the very concept of death has been rewritten.

5.1 [Fact] The Mechanism of Repatriation and The Seam

When a Repatriate dies in the world of the living, their soul (Ka) is not immediately washed away to the Beach, but transitions to a surreal, underwater-like space located midway between the world of the living and the Beach, called “The Seam.” An ordinary human would simply pass through The Seam and be irreversibly swept away to the Beach. However, a Repatriate can manipulate their own soul to some extent within the space of The Seam, find the trace (a thread of light) connecting to their own body (Ha) drifting in the space, and reconnect with it by their own will.

Even if a Repatriate is preyed upon by a BT and triggers a Voidout, they resurrect into the world of the living once again. What is noteworthy is that the Voidout crater caused by a Repatriate is always smaller in scale than one caused by an ordinary human. This is presumed to be because the majority of the explosion’s energy is “lost” to the Beach side. However, the process of repatriation is by no means painless magic. The phenomenon of Sam violently vomiting Tar and cryptobiotes immediately after resurrection is a tremendous metaphysical allergic reaction that occurs when a body once tainted by death forcibly reboots the system of “life.” Furthermore, it has been proven that a Repatriate’s bodily fluids (blood, sweat, excrement) function as powerful antibodies (weapons) that repel BTs or send them back to the Beach.

5.2 Metaphysical Consideration: “Severance of Connection” and the Curse Named Immortality

Why were Repatriates able to overcome the absolute providence of death? Tracing its origins leads to the historical background where, when Sam was still an infant test subject as a BB (Bridge Baby), he lost his life in an accident and washed up on the Beach, only to be directly “flowed backward (resurrected)” into the world of the living by Amelie (Bridget’s soul), an Extinction Entity (EE).

This very moment, when Amelie resurrected Sam as a special exception, was actually the trigger for the “true Death Stranding (the first Voidout)” that brought fatal ruin to the world. Upon resurrecting into the world of the living, Sam had his “original connection to the world of death” completely severed, both physically and conceptually.

Ironically, as a result of being deprived of his “connection to death (that is, the right to die peacefully),” he was subjected to the “curse of immortality,” forever bound to the world of the living. The reason a Repatriate’s blood can destroy BTs is none other than the fact that the very existence of a Repatriate is a “highly toxic foreign substance whose acceptance was rejected” from the perspective of the world of death (the Beach). During the repatriation process, when Sam ascends through The Seam and returns to his body, a hallucination can be seen where an eerie infant figure resembling a BB appears in the back of his throat, giving a thumbs-up. This is considered to be a mental visualization of the fact that he is essentially in a “state of constantly being pushed out and vomited by the Beach.” Sam did not overcome death; he is an eternal exile denied entry by the world of death.

6. The Next Stage of Boundary Collapse in “DS2: On the Beach”

Even after the original Death Stranding phenomenon reached a temporary lull (the postponement of The Sixth Extinction: Last Stranding) through the decision of Amelie, the Extinction Entity (EE), and Sam’s embrace, the boundary between life and death was not completely repaired. Rather, the exploration records in Mexico and the Australian continent by the civilian organization Drawbridge and the DHV Magellan (the phenomena in “DS2”) indicate that the boundary collapse has evolved into a new form, transitioning to a more inexplicable and severe dimension.

These giant Beached Things do not immediately trigger a Voidout upon contact like normal BTs. Instead, they possess the extremely unique characteristic of lifting the living (Sam) into the air with their tentacles, taking them into their bodies, and then “teleporting” them, cargo and all, completely unharmed to the location of “another paired individual” existing far away.

6.2 Metaphysical Consideration: The “Beach-ification” of the World Itself

The “teleportation” phenomenon by the giant jellyfish-type BTs is decisive proof that the collapse of the boundary between life and death has finally begun to erode even the physical concepts of “distance and space.” In the realm of the dead known as the Beach, the physical time and space of the living world hold no meaning. The ability to travel long distances instantly by passing through the “antimatter cavity” within a BT’s body means that the three-dimensional spatial coordinates of the living world are being forcibly folded through the back alleys of higher-dimensional space (the Beach).

This is no longer merely a disaster-level issue of “the erosion of death.” It should be regarded as a transitional ecological phenomenon in which the Earth’s environment itself is attempting to “optimize (or evolve)” itself to match the physical laws of the Beach. The Plate Gates pierced into the earth also suggest that, while physically connecting continents, the Earth’s crust itself is becoming a “living Seam” directly connected to the Beach.

6.3 [Fact] “Stillbaby Syndrome”: The Stagnation of the Birth of Life

A fact that came to light as an extremely important and quiet terror during the investigative voyage of “DS2” is the spread of “Stillbaby Syndrome.” This is an abnormal event where a pregnant fetus stops growing inside the mother’s womb and remains permanently at the 7-month stage of pregnancy. Rainy, an excellent crew member of the DHV Magellan, was also forced into a state where she remained heavily pregnant for a long period without reaching childbirth due to the effects of this syndrome.

As a result, the system of life itself tilts toward the side of “death (endless maintenance of the status quo),” and humanity is being forced down the path to species extinction through a slow “Demographic Extinction,” without even waiting for flashy physical destruction like a Voidout.

7. The Hive Mind of the Dead: The Dystopian Salvation of APAS 4000

Humanity’s unconscious, yet most horrifying countermeasure against the boundary collapse is the existence of the AI system “APAS 4000,” constructed by the Automated Public Assistance Company (APAC), which was maneuvering behind the scenes of the UCA.

7.1 [Fact] The Fusion of 4000 Souls and Machine

APAS 4000 is not merely a machine intelligence that performs advanced logical calculations. The “4000” in the name of this system refers to the number of souls (consciousnesses) of the 4,000 people who were annihilated by a massive Voidout that occurred in the past and were thrown onto the Beach. APAS 4000, the collective mind (Borg collective) of the dead, was created by assimilating and fusing these 4,000 souls with a cluster of AI servers.

The ultimate goal of APAS 4000 was not only to physically connect humanity using the Chiral Network, but ultimately to digitize the consciousness of all humanity and upload it onto the network. Behind the return of the fanatic Higgs for revenge after wandering the Beach for tens of thousands of years, there also existed the ulterior motive of APAS, which intended to use him as a “club to incite the fear of extinction” and force scattered communities to connect to the Chiral Network.

7.2 Metaphysical Consideration: “Extinction” in the Name of Salvation

The logic of APAS 4000 is an extremely ruthless and rational “dystopian salvation” born in a world where the boundary between life and death has become ambiguous. The conclusion is that the only logical consequence to escape the terror of Necrosis and Voidouts is “to become an existence that does not possess a body (Ha) from the beginning.” Without a body, Necrosis does not occur. Without a body, a Voidout does not occur either.

However, being ubiquitous on the network as a data entity consisting solely of a soul (Ka) means the complete cessation of evolution as life. Ironically, the “eternal preservation of humanity” aimed for by APAS 4000 is nothing more than another aspect of “The Sixth Extinction” that Amelie, the Extinction Entity (EE), tried to bring about. A world where death does not exist is, in other words, a return to a world of nothingness where “life” also cannot exist. Just as ancient Egyptian mummification once sought an eternal vessel in the world of the living for the soul to return to, it can be said that APAS 4000 likened the Chiral Network to a modern giant pyramid, attempting to eternally seal the souls of all humanity within it. The fact that Die-Hardman used a new Q-pid to connect Australia and physically severed the connection between APAS 4000 and the world of the living was a historical moment when humanity re-selected the “path of living through hardships while possessing a physical body.”

8. Tomorrow and Neil Vana: The Fusion of Life and Death and the Zenith of Evolution

The greatest miracle produced by the boundary collapse, and the existence that indicates the next paradigm for humanity, is the young woman “Tomorrow,” who forms the core of “DS2.”

8.1 Factual Structure: The Girl Raised on the Beach and the Ghost Soldier

Tomorrow’s true identity is BB-28 “Lou (Louise),” who once traveled across the American continent with Sam. When Fragile’s hideout was attacked by a mysterious armed group, Lou appeared to have lost her life, but just before that, through Fragile’s desperate actions, her soul and body were transferred to the Beach.

The destination of the transfer was the Beach of the mysterious ghost soldier, Neil Vana. Neil was trapped in an eternal loop of suffering out of lingering affection and despair for his beloved wife Lucy (coincidentally the same name as Sam’s late wife), but he sheltered the infant (Lou) who appeared in his realm, protecting her in a chrysalis-like state. In the singularity of the Beach, where the flow of time is different, Lou grew rapidly and achieved her return to the world of the living as a young woman who had lost her memories, “Tomorrow.”

Tomorrow clearly possesses the properties of both the living and the dead, such as the ability to swim freely in Tar, the matter of the world of the dead, and the power to manipulate Tar to fight. The fanatic Higgs plotted to use her power to accelerate decay and aging through Tar, elevating her as a new “Extinction Entity (EE)” to replace Amelie, and attempting to trigger the complete end of humanity (Last Stranding).

8.2 Metaphysical Consideration: Evolution into the “Boundary” Itself and the Physical Force of Love

If the Repatriate Sam is a “living person rejected by death,” then his biological daughter Tomorrow is a “new human being who simultaneously contains life and death (an existence that goes even further beyond Homo Demens).” Her existence clearly indicates that humanity has transitioned from the stage of merely “surviving” the disaster known as the Death Stranding inside shelters, to the stage of incorporating the very mechanism of the phenomenon into their own biological evolution.

What should be noted here is the power of “will” demonstrated by Neil Vana and Fragile. The fact that Fragile, despite being fatally wounded in the attack, intentionally diluted the connection between her body (Ha) and soul (Ka) on the Beach to escape immediate death (Necrosis) and protect Lou. And the fact that the soul of a nameless soldier named Neil raised a stranger’s infant amidst eternal suffering. These prove that formless human “emotions (or attachments)” such as love and self-sacrifice function as “mutational factors” that overcome even physical Tar and the process of Necrosis.

In this universe, a “Strand” is not merely a concept of social communication. It is a fundamental “Force” that rewrites the laws of physics and bends even the gravity of the dimension of death. The conclusion where Tomorrow ultimately repels Higgs’s curse and steps forward as a Porter like her father Sam is a powerful anthem to humanity’s continued will to carry connections, even in a new world where life and death have fused.

Conclusion: The Spectrum of Life and Death and the Destination of the Unseen Strand

The event of the “Death Stranding phenomenon and the collapse of the boundary between ‘life and death’” thrust a fundamental paradigm shift upon humanity.

Once, life was a clear white, and death was an absolute black. However, in this desolate world where Timefall pours down, black Tar crawls across the earth, and BTs float in the sky dangling umbilical cords, life and death have transformed into an endless series of gradations (a spectrum) mediated by “The Seam” and the “Beach.” The body (Ha) became a time bomb containing the irresistible process of collapse known as Necrosis, and the soul (Ka) became an explosive forever wandering the world of the living in search of lost warmth. And the tragic collision of the two continues to carve unhealing scars (craters) into the world in the form of nothingness (Voidouts).

However, in the midst of this overwhelming despair and collapse, humanity was not merely waiting for ruin. The discovery of the singularity known as Repatriates, the recombination of divided individuals through the Chiral Network, and the birth of new life that transcends the boundary between life and death, like Tomorrow, suggest that the vector of evolution is heading toward the next dimension. Rejecting the dystopian temptation of “the cessation of life (digitization) to abolish death” presented by APAS 4000, the path chosen by Sam and the members of Drawbridge was one of stepping forward into an uncertain tomorrow with vulnerable bodies (Ha), even while harboring the “terror of death (BTs, Timefall, Necrosis)” as their neighbors.

“Life” generates the “meaning” of connecting with others and passing the baton to the next generation precisely because it has an absolute end (finitude) that will eventually lead to “death.” In this world where the boundary has collapsed and the “afterlife” has overflowed from the bottom of the Earth, what humanity truly had to keep connected was not just the Chiral Network of divided cities. It can be said that it was human dignity itself, which still ties the “unseen Strand” of love and attachment between the “body that will eventually be lost” and the “soul that wanders eternally.”

As this treatise shows, the Death Stranding phenomenon is an endless chain of tragedies, and at the same time, the ultimate “trial of evolution” set by the Earth for all life. What kind of “new form of life” will humanity weave from the sea of Tar where the boundary between life and death melts together?
